WHAT:
Creating a diverse repertory company of performers, musicians, technicians, designers, and front-of-house staff that will collaborate to produce two musicals, three plays, and a New Works Collection to be performed during the summer of 2023 at the Redlands Theatre Festival in Prospect Park. Casting over 50 speaking roles, plus ensemble roles for the following productions:
URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL
HEAD OVER HEELS: THE GO-GO'S MUSICAL
THE SEAGULL
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE
THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
NEW WORKS COLLECTION
We are a public charitable repertory theatrical organization that makes available to the general public the luxury of great drama, as well as new works, well produced, and modestly priced.
The Redlands Theatre Festival was founded in 1972 by Cliff Cabanilla, a native of Hawaii. As an extension of the Crafton Hills College theatre program and summer school. RTF is a non-profit, resident, rotating-repertory theatre company. RTF has performed for over three-quarters of a million people
A typical season includes a large-scale Broadway musical, a smaller-scale Off-Broadway musical, a period piece (Shakespeare, Molière, et al.), a contemporary play (usually a comedy), and a wild card (experimental, avant-garde, or new works). Occasionally, special events may be included in the season: concerts, invited guests and groups, etc.
RTF runs every night, Wednesday-Sunday, during its summer season. A different show plays each evening as the shows randomly rotate. See something different every night of the week!
Auditions for the Festival company take place in early February. Rehearsals begin in April. The season runs mid-June through the beginning of August. We are always looking for volunteers! Check back often for more information.

WHO WE ARE:
The Redlands Theatre Festival (RTF) is a non-profit, semi-professional, resident theatre company featuring traditional rotating repertory at the Prospect Park Amphitheater. The 2023 season of performances runs most evenings, including weeknights, June 16th-July 30th. There is some pay.
HOW IT WORKS: AUDITIONS ARE FOR A PLACE IN THE RTF COMPANY:
All five shows will be cast from those accepting a position in the Company. Company members will be expected to participate in up to three of the five productions as actors, musicians, front-of-house staff, and/or technicians. All Company members should be available for the entire production period:
Company Meeting -- (mandatory) April 1, 2023 11am
Rehearsals -- Each show rehearses just once or twice per week, Mon-Sun. Rehearsals begin April 15th, 2023.
Shows -- Shows rotate daily for performances, including weeknights, beginning June 15th, 2023 and running through July 29th, 2023.
Final Strike -- (mandatory) Immediately following the production on July 29th, 2023
Company Picnic -- A celebration with awards! Sunday evening, July 30th, 2023.
Even after being cast in the Company and specific show(s), Company members should remain available as casting adjustments and technical assignments may change. You may be pulled into an additional role at a later date. Flexibility is crucial.
WHAT TO PREPARE:
-
Current headshot and resume.
-
16-32 bars from a song from HEAD OVER THE HEELS or URINETOWN. Please bring your own marked sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. You may use a track from your own device; bring your own speaker. No a capella or CDs, please.
-
Wear appropriate shoes and clothing to dance. There will be a short dance combination.
-
A list of any hard-conflicts that may prevent you from attending any rehearsal, performance, or mandatory event. This includes weddings, graduations, travel, work, etc. Each show only rehearses about 12-14 times. Excessive conflicts could prevent you from being cast in a show. Adding dates after the audition could cause you to be removed from a show.
-
You may perform a memorized 1-2 minute monologue in the style of your choice that best shows your range. There will also be cold readings from the selected plays. Sides will be provided.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:
We will also be taking applications at the auditions for our internship, apprentice, and volunteer programs. RTF is a 501(c)3 non-profit and qualifies for community service hours. All students will be asked to register for Theatre Arts classes through Crafton Hills College.
Video submissions will be accepted until 11:00am on January 28th, 2023. Email us at AuditionsRTF@gmail.com for self-tape instructions.
